Around New Year's Day 2025, "RNA biopesticides" will create a strong "blue ocean trend" worldwide. Firstly, "RNA insecticides for farmland" made it to the top ten scientific breakthroughs list in 2024. More than two months later, Siyi Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. won the first prize in the finals of the "Innovation in Shanghai" International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for its achievements in leading the innovation and development of RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) biopesticides in China at the forefront of the world. This is another remarkable scientific and technological innovation award won by the company after winning the highest award, the Excellence Award, in the 2024 National Disruptive Innovation Competition.
Founded in 2017, Siyi Technology has set sail into the blue ocean of the green pesticide industry under the leadership of its founder, Dr. Tang Xueming, a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It has established a rich product research and development pipeline for insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and other products in China, registered and tested the world's first RNA fungicide and the first RNA insecticide in China, and led the implementation of China's first RNA pesticide standard. It has demonstrated its unparalleled influence in the global green manufacturing of biopesticides. What are the stories of technological innovation and entrepreneurship behind this?
At the moment I decided to start my own business, I had already decided to do difficult but beneficial things, and to do things that are beneficial to the development of the country and the times. It is precisely because we persisted in doing difficult but right things and achieved some results that we chose RNA biopesticides as a cutting-edge field, which was based on my personal growth and the needs of the times. "Sitting in the simple small conference room of Siyi Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. located in Zhangjiang Innovative Pharmaceutical Industry Base, Xinchang Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai, Tang Xueming talked to reporters for the first time about his scientific and technological innovation thinking and emotional journey.
In the past 20 years, humanity has witnessed the magnificent development of biotechnology. As a researcher in the field of life sciences, Tang Xueming, who worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University in 2005, witnessed the rise of gene silencing technology and gene editing technology, as well as the leapfrog development of life sciences that followed. In the second decade of the 21st century, Tang Xueming was given the opportunity to be a visiting professor at Oxford University. At a top university where life science experts gather, he was keenly aware of the trends in the RNA biopesticides and green pesticide industries.
